SPARK Co-Lab have this month revealed their plans to unveil a new accelerator course “SPARK Actuator” after receiving the Industry Sector Development scholarship of $70,000 from the City of Perth.
The Actuator Course will provide medical innovators with a 12 month educational and networking program in order to help them take their inventions to market. Available to any medical entrepreneur with existing IP, the course will also make for a perfect follow up to the Design course, Actuator’s sister program in which multidisciplinary teams find unmet needs in the clinic and turn them into medical devices and start ups.
After gaining the support of Accelerating Australia, through MTPConnect, for their Design Course in 2017, SPARK Co-Lab received over 90 expressions of interest for the course and opened up 5 extra places to accommodate for the demand. SPARK Co-Lab Design is now currently half-way through its 6 month run.
Perth Lord Mayor, Lisa Scaffidi praised SPARK and said the Actuator was a deserving recipient of the grant.
“In partnership with SPARK Co-Lab, the City of Perth is progressing its goal of establishing Perth as an Asia-Pacific biotech hub, and we are well-placed to take a leadership role in research collaboration.” Scaffidi said.
“We have a wealth of talent here in Western Australia, and the City’s commitment to innovation will help provide the financial means to make this happen.”
