The McCusker Auditorium at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research (QEII Medical Centre) hosted a symposium on personalised therapeutics technologies on Thursday the 13th of July, supported by Accelerating Australia, Raine Medical Research Foundation and the Perkins. A number of leading scientists spoke about their work including Raine Visiting Professor Shulamit Levenberg from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. See the program below.

Alastair Stewart is the Co-Director of the Lung Health Research Centre; Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne.

Sarah Dunlop is the Head of School/Head of Experimental and Regenerative Neurosciences at the School of Biological Sciences, UWA.

Julian is an expert in brain growth and disease at Curtin University of Technology.

9.45am Martine Keenan

Martine is the head of drug discovery at EpiChem, who provide services in synthetic and medicinal chemistry to the drug discovery and pharmaceutical industries.

Paul is the Managing Director of Orthocell, a world leading regenerative medicine company.

10.15am Jane Pillow 

Jane is the Co-Director of the Preterm Centre of Research Excellence at UWA and is a world leader in the area of neonatal respiration.

Brendan is the Laboratory Head for Bioimaging Research and Innovation for Translational Engineering Lab (BRITElab) at Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

11:15am Pearl Tan

Pearl is the Chief Operating Officer at Proteomics International,  a medical technology company focused on proteomics (the large scale structure and function of proteins).

11.30am Thierry Volery 

Thierry is Professor of Entrepreneurship and the Head of the Marketing Discipline at the UWA Business School.

11.45am Kevin Pfleger  

Kevin is the Chair of the Steering Committee for Accelerating Australia as well as the Head of Molecular Endocrinology and Pharmacology at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

Raine Visiting Professor Lecture 
12:00pm Shulamit Levenberg (Technion, Israel Institute of Technology): Vascularization dynamics in engineered tissues

Professor Levenberg did her PhD at the Weizmann institute on cell adhesion, and her postdoctorate research on tissue engineering with Professor Robert Langer at MIT. She is also developing micro bioreactors and nanolitre droplet devices for stem cell growth and manipulations. Professor Levenberg received the Krill Prize for excellence in scientific research by the Wolf Foundation, and was named by Scientific American as a “Research Leader” in Tissue Engineering. Professor Levenberg is currently the elected president of the Israel Stem Cell Society and serves as a member of the Israel National Bioethics Council.
